Everyday baby mix ups happen all over the world. If a mother suspects that her baby is mixed up with another one she can always opt or request for a DNA maternity test so that she can be sure that the child is hers or not. Maternity test is very much like the DNA paternity test where the baby’s DNA pattern is compared with the assumed mom so that it can be determined how unlikely or likely the baby has inherited or acquired the DNA from its assumed mom.
Father’s DNA can also be included in the DNA maternity test as it helps in excluding half of the baby’s DNA. The rest of the DNA is compared with that of the assumed mom. However it is not necessary or mandatory to get the father’s participation in the maternity test.
DNA maternity test is said to be a very reliable type of identification test as can be defensible legally. The courts accept and prefer such processes as the samples are collected by a third party who is impartial at a laboratory or clinic. The participants seeking DNA maternity test need to offer an identification issued by the government. All the parties are required to be fingerprinted and photographed at the collection centre to prevent foul play.
